And as he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.
And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being inundated by the waves, but he himself was asleep.
And they came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
And he said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm.
And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
But the disciples, when they saw him walking on the sea, were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Have courage, I am he! Do not be afraid!”
And Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water!”
So he said, “Come!” And getting out of the boat, Peter walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
And immediately Jesus extended his hand and caught him and said to him, “You of little faith! Why did you doubt?”
so that the genuineness of your faith, more valuable than gold that is passing away, but is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
whom, although you have not seen, you love; in whom now you believe, although you do not see him, and you rejoice greatly with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
because everyone who is fathered by God conquers the world.
And this is the victory which has conquered the world: our faith.
