“I continued watching in the visions of the night, and look, with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man was coming, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and was presented before him.
And as Jesus went out of the temple courts he was going along, and his disciples came up to point out to him the buildings of the temple.
But he answered and said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone will be left here on another stone that will not be thrown down!”
And as he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came up to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man arriving on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
And just as it was in the days of Noah, so also it will be in the days of the Son of Man—
they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building.
But on the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all.
It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.
On that day, whoever is on the housetop and his goods are in the house must not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field must not turn back
Remember Lot’s wife!
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will keep it.
I tell you that in that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left.
There will be two women grinding at the same place; one will be taken and the other will be left.”
And they answered and said to him, “Where, Lord?” So he said to them, “Where the dead body is, there also the vultures will be gathered.”
who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand there looking into the sky? This Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven like this will come back in the same way you saw him departing into heaven!”
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive, who remain, will be snatched away at the same time together with them in the clouds for a meeting with the Lord in the air, and thus we will be together with the Lord always.
But know this, that in the last days difficult times will come,
for people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
hardhearted, irreconcilable, slanderous, without self-control, savage, with no interest for what is good,
traitors, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God,
maintaining a form of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid these people.
above all knowing this, that in the last days scoffers will come with scoffing, following according to their own desires
and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued just as they have been from the beginning of creation.”
For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that the heavens existed long ago and the earth held together out of water and through water by the word of God,
by means of which things the world that existed at that time was destroyed by being inundated with water.
But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.
Now, dear friends, do not let this one thing escape your notice, that one day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day.
The Lord is not delaying the promise, as some consider slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will disappear with a rushing noise, and the celestial bodies will be destroyed by being burned up, and the earth and the deeds done on it will be disclosed.
