5. Longing for Intimacy without Embarrassment

God's dream has always been to share his heart with us in a way that surpasses anything we know or can imagine. God created us with a deep desire to know and be fully known without any constraints.

Eden was a place created by God for intimacy between God and us. The first man and woman lived in this place of intimacy.

Sin brought embarrassment and broke intimacy with God, moving us away from this place created by God so that we could meet with Him every day as our family members.

Jesus knew very well this yearning for intimacy that he chose a group of people to share his life with and one of his teachings was about this intimacy.

That they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me, and I in you; that they too may be one in us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. And the glory which you gave me I have given them, that they may be one, as we are one. I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfect in unity, and that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them as you loved me. John 17:21-23

The human heart craves intimacy; that is why the enemy of our souls seeks to exploit this yearning by laying before us many paths that offer false intimacy that lead to shame.

This is the real reason why we should look for intimacy in the right place. Let’s look at some aspects of this intimacy:

1) How to find this intimacy without embarrassment?

Intimacy means much more than physical togetherness. It is the strengthening of the security that people have in each other that allows them to share the deepest areas of their hearts, in dreams and hopes; without fear of your failures, your feelings and your frustrations.

Intimacy requires trust. Certainly intimacy with God is extremely secure and will fully satisfy our heart's longing for intimacy.

While human intimacy has a limited scope, intimacy with God continues into eternity and has no reservations.

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which he consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, his flesh, And having a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near us with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts cleansed from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with clean water. Hebrews 10:19-22

2) Having intimacy in our victory and prosperity

God is our best coach, fan, sponsor and advocate. He is extremely interested in our success according to the purposes He has established for each of us.

God sees in you a potential that not even you see today, even knowing your faults he looks beyond them; for the success you will have in your future, no matter how contrary the circumstances are, he says to you: “You will succeed”

The Lord celebrates the now and the after in us. He is interested in celebrating with you along your journey of intimacy with Him.

3) Having intimacy in our aches and pains

Surely you will observe that one of the moments when we exercise greater intimacy with God is when we go through suffering.

Indeed, the pain of persecution and the pain of our failure are like companions to the process of knowing and experiencing Jesus on the most intimate levels.

for we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who, like us, has been tempted in every way, yet without sin. So let us approach the throne of grace with all confidence, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15,16

4) Having intimacy with us in our sacrifices

We are all called to make sacrifices every day.

Living with other people, whether in the relationship between parents and children, husband and wife, between siblings, requires constant sacrifices, as we are often subject to different and contrary desires and desires.

These are the small sacrifices we have to make in life.

Christ's life is an example of constant sacrifice. His coming into the world in human form was a sacrifice we are not able to fully understand.

If so, Christ would have had to suffer many times since the beginning of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of time, to put away sin through the sacrifice of himself . Hebrews 9:26

5) Having Intimacy to Know the Passions of Our Hearts

We have passions in our heart. Some like to play, others to dance, others like technology. We feel fulfilled when we fully fulfill our heart's passion.

The musician feels fulfilled playing music, either at home or in an auditorium.
The businessman derives great satisfaction from a job well done.

God intimately knows the passions he has specifically planned for our hearts. He rejoices when we express ourselves in this way. He rejoices with us.

Today in a world full of people who crave intimacy Jesus is saying to you:

“I'm here to meet you. I rejoiced in your success. I will cry with you in your times of failure and pain. I will understand your sacrifices and affirm the passions that make you unique in time and eternity. I will be truly intimate with you. I will know you and you will know me, and there will be no shame in that.”
